Dan Lonowski and his wife Janet have been married for 35 years. They have lived in the Hastings area for the last 29 where they are members of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings. They have five children. Three are teachers, (two in public education and one in Catholic education), a skincare specialist, and a physical therapist. They currently have six grandchildren.
Dan is a combat veteran and retired Army Colonel. Lonowski is known as a "Mustang" as he rose through the NCO ranks before commissioning as a Second Lieutenant infantry platoon leader. Dan also served as a tank platoon commander, and a company commander in armor. Lonowski also served as a battalion executive officer for the 92nd Troop Command in Lincoln before he completed his career as a Public Affairs Officer and a Public Information Coordinator. Along the way, COL Lonowski served as a transportation specialist in Germany (Return Forces to Germany) in 1985.
In 1992, Lonowski served as a Spanish interpreter in Honduras for the Mission, Caminos Fuertes. In 2009 he deployed to fight in Afghanistan with the 35th Expeditionary Sustainment Command where he earned the NATO medal, the Afghan Campaign Ribbon, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. COL Lonowski has also deployed overseas to missions on the South Korean / North Korean border on the DMZ (demilitarized zone).
As a stateside Guardsman, COL Lonowski has assisted with hurricane relief in Louisiana, flood duties along the Missouri and Platte Rivers and wild fire control in Chadron.
Lonowski taught for 34 years, the last 29 in the Adams Central School District. He was the head wrestling coach and junior high football coach during his entire tenure at Adams Central; he retired last year. He is the owner of a small business; his parking lot painting service spans across the state of Nebraska. Lonowski currently works as the project coordinator for ASAAP (Area Substance & Alcohol Abuse Prevention) where he travels to schools within a four-county region presenting on the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.
